Planning successful play dates isn’t difficult. It does take a little bit of planning ahead but with these tips you’ll be rocking your next play date like the rockstar mama or dad that you are. Parenting is overwhelming as it is, these tips will let your breeze by these play dates.

I’ve noticed more and more how much my son craves interaction with other children. He truly loves being around other children and asks me to take him places to play with other kids. He says hi to every single child he sees, he’s so eager to play with them.

I invited a few children for a messy artsy play date and these are the steps I’ve followed. Not to brag or anything but the kids had to be dragged out crying cause they wanted to stay. I’d say that makes for a very a successful play date.

Tip 1: Decide on a few activities

Little ones get bored easily and will leave an activity as quickly as they picked it up, only to go back to it a few minutes later. Having multiple play options will hold their attention better/longer and make for more successful play dates.

For this play date you’ll need:
  • Watercolor Paints
  • Regular Paints
  • Play-doh or modeling clay
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors (I’m teaching my 2.5 year old handle scissors early, but can be used with older children)
  • WaterWipes (For easy & safe clean-up)
  • Old or new plastic shower curtain

TIP 2: Pick up supplies and set up ahead of time.

This includes any snacks you might be serving. I had a variety of snacks laid out, pão de queijo(Brazilian cheese bread) and juice. I have to say snacks were overlooked with the cheese bread laid out. The kids were fed first and during play time. Fed kids always behave better in my honest opinion.

TIP 3: Downtime & Clean-up

This goes back to my first tip. Toddlers have an attention span of a fish, so having something to divert their attention from the messy play and easing into closing credits is a must. I wipe all of their little hands, arms, legs and faces with WaterWipes.

WaterWipes contains only two ingredients, 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. Safe and effective for cleaning up even the fun messes. Natural ingredients safe from harmful chemicals.

We then set them off to Water play. Kiddie pool and or Water table will work or even a pouring station (Large recipient and smaller recipients to transfer water to and fro)

** Extra tip: The shower curtain is to make your life even easier. Can be easily thrown if too much of a mess was made or can be washed and re-used for the next play date.

And Voila! You have just delivered a successful play date mama! Congrats to you for rocking it. Here’s to many more successful play dates in your near future. Thanks to WaterWipes to keeping the safety and well-being of our little ones in mind.

How to Entertain a Child for 30 Minutes

How to entertain a child for 30 minutes.

Being a stay at home mom has it’s perks, you don’t have to get dressed up, brush your hair or even brush your teeth if you don’t feel like it (although it’s highly recommended). You learn some tricks along the way in order to entertain your child to get certain things done (blogging, cleaning, calling your cable company) but doing those thing sometimes require some silence of sorts. And if you have kids calling you every single minute while you are trying to do the aforementioned tasks, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!

I’m sharing several ideas on how to entertain you children for 30 minutes.

Okay, you can say.. That’s not a long time. Yea.. it’s not BUT and that’s a big BUT we are crafty ladies and we get things done when we don’t even have that. I’m going to share 4 items that have helped me entertain my child and I hope it helps you get some time to get whatever you need done, even if it’s a nap.

Outdoor entertainment

entertain a child with a water table

This is a winner at our house! It doesn’t require any fancy toy although sometimes it helps but if you have a hose and are willing to waste some water for your sanity and work to flow, then mama turn on that hose. (Make sure you don’t turn it up too strongly and it’s on the mist feature)

This entertains my little guy (granted he’ll be 2.5 in a couple months) but it works wonders and he is also burning up some energy for later when it’s bedtime. WIN-WIN. Am I right or am I right? Buckets also work wonders.

We also have one of these water play tables where you can put sand or whatever on one side and water in the other side. I have never used sand (I think that requires a little bit more clean up and mama don’t want the hassle)and just put water on both sides. He doesn’t know what it’s supposed to be. 🙂

This could be done inside too but could potentially lead to screaming on my part. I prefer it being an outside play with my toddler. He tends to get messy and mess stays outside, unless he’s sitting right next to me. I have a large spiral bound sketchpad from a previously failed attempt at drawing, which now has purpose “his fabulous masterpieces” for his mother. We use these to color at my house, which you can find a full on review on this blog. I highly recommend them.

indoor entertainment- Great for those rainy days

Oh goodness. I took a while to introduce play-doh to my son and I have no clue why, maybe I thought he would eat it I suppose. But goodness. He can sit still on his little ikea table (that’s the only place I allow him to play with it. Don’t judge me, I don’t want too much of a mess). The table is in his room but I bring it out to the middle of our living room when I have a deadline or just need him to be entertained while I get some cleaning done.

This one is also great for those rainy days, which as I write is happening right now. But he’s napping so we’ll use play-doh later cause I still have a lot of to do!

#4 – TV/IPAD

This one is not my favorite, and I held off on him watching TV for the longest time. But once he sees me bring out the iPad, he is elated! I think that is his favorite thing outside of chocolate (he’ll do anything for chocolate, but don’t we all? HAHA) I think my son thinks he’s been rewarded when I hand him the iPad. He also loves to watch Cars and just recently got hooked on watching Jonah (VeggieTales) on amazon video.

Here’s wishing you a good luck mom or dad on entertaining your sweet angels! If you have some more ways to entertain your child please do so in the comments below! We very much need ideas.
