Hey Mamas!

Hope you all are having a fantastic beginning of your week. I was planning on writing something more personal today, but I received an e-mail from Gymboree about this deal and I had to share with you all.

You know our kids grow like crazy and we’re always having to replace their clothes. My kiddo is now going through a new growth spurt and we’re moving up at a size. After I put Nico to sleep and got my workout in (yes ladies, let’s do it!) I spent the rest of my morning shopping for him.

I just bought the cutest little things for my son at GYMBOREE, lots of great deals to choose from. You can also get GYMBUCKS while shopping. I also got FREE SHIPPING, because I purchase over $75 dollars worth of clothes. I scored some really cute clothes for him, I can’t wait till they arrive. Maybe I’ll even do a video haul. MAYBE! Or I’ll just post photos.

Today only, get 50% off summer styles at Gymboree!

If you’re not familiar with Gymboree:

A Mother’s Morning Routine with a Toddler

motherhood , daily routine young love mommy blog

I’m not in pj’s anymore! I’ve been trying really hard to change out of my pajamas daily when I wake up. It’s been a good two months! Although I find nothing wrong with staying at home in pj’s; it was affecting how much effort I put into my morning.

The daily grind of motherhood tends to do that to you. Everyday is like the other.
Wake up with a kick or punch to the face from your co-sleeping toddler or maybe a nice shoulder bite like today to get your blood flowing and get you out of bed. He sure got my attention.
He’s my little alarm clock and I try to keep him in bed for as long as possible cuddling. Depending on the day I get a good 30 minutes of him flapping around the bed like a beached whale.
We get up, I’m sure if he could express himself better, he’d say FINALLY WOMAN.
We brush our teeth together and I change out of my clothes. I make the bed while he helps me with putting the pillows on top of the bed.
This sounds productive but trust me it’s not. Since a lot of what I do is a game to him he does a lot of undoing what I just did.
We move on to running after him to get his almost knee reaching wet diaper, this is what I call my daily workout which happens several times a day. I proceed to hand him a banana. He eats it whole so I don’t have the need to cut it up. Thanks BLW
Then I have a moment to prepare breakfast while he’s munching on his banana.
Breakfast usually consists of lots of bread! My main food source. I give him lots of fruit but I am a terrible example of health. I wonder when that will catch up to me? He’ll see me with a nice juicy burger in hand and he’ll have an apple and ask why I don’t eat what I feed him?
Bad mommy. I need to change my eating habits badly! But that’s another subject.
We eat breakfast with soundtrack provided by daddy. I’m not a morning person so I prefer quiet but my husband on the other hand likes to crank out music.
There’s usually a dance party mid-breakfast. I try to keep things light and fun with the kiddo. I’m really working on his sense of humor and it seems to be catching on if you follow me on Instagram (you do, don’t ya?) you’ll see my latest video bringing that out of him.
He does a great job of being funny himself.  Sidenote: I think I might take some time to research this, are we responsible for our children’s sense of humor? I’ve never read up on it but I would assume so.
We wave goodbye to daddy as he heads of to work in the midst of me trying to appease my child’s cries over daddy leaving but he quickly forgets as I take his focus away. By now he’s usually a bit tired already and almost ready for his nap. SCORE! I take him out on his Radio Flyer trike which he loves. We cruise for about 30 minutes or as long as I can take the heat. We do live in south Florida.
I make him a bottle and off to bed he goes.
Now the marathon begins. What to do first? I used to write lots of lists but they seem to be ineffective at the moment. So I just take mental notes and hope I remember the trillion things I’ve planned for myself. Usually doesn’t happen but it’s the thought that counts (at least for me)
I pick whatever chore I need to do while usually watching something recorded on the DVR. And just hope for a nice long nap.
So mamas? What does your morning look like? Sounds similar to mine? Or are you rushing out with a bagel in your mouth because you’re late to work and you still gotta drop of the kids at daycare? Share in the comments below how you overcome the morning hussle.

When Your Child is Sick

It’s been a few days since I started writing this post but having a sick child at home is more time consuming than you can imagine.

Can you believe I’ve been blogging for a year now?!? Yes! My “blogiversary” was a few days ago. I was planning on hosting a giveaway to celebrate the occasion but I haven’t had the time lately. I read somewhere that 80% of blogs don’t reach one year. But here I am! Although I don’t blog as often as I’d like (I have over 30 unfinished drafts just sitting in my files waiting to be completed.
There is no worse feeling than seeing your child in pain. If you’ve never had a sick baby in your hands, lucky you! It really is one of the most heartbreaking feelings ever. You feel so helpless. You try and try to console your child with any and everything. And when your actions do nothing to make them feel better, you just feel like a failure.
Right now my kiddo is under the weather and I feel terrible. He’s gotten better but refuses to eat most of what I put out. I’m offering anything I can think of so this kid can eat. And he’s getting very little into his tiny body, which drives me insane!! Please just eat. You need to eat to get better. But he’s one, he has no clue what’s good for him and behind snot filled runny nose there’s a mama in tears praying for little baby to feel better.
When they take a bite of food, you feel so so happy. It’s a relief but it’s disappointing when they don’t. You start off with offering good nutritious things that will benefit his body and you resort to practically giving him paper as long as he eats.
Thankfully he just has a cold but it’s his first cold and second time he’s been sick.  To make things better, he hit his eye on the tub spout the other day and will probably have a scar. We usually co-shower, it saves me from having to shower while he’s sleeping (that’s valuable time) so I didn’t buy one of these spout covers yet but it’s sitting in my amazon shopping cart.
I try to use mostly natural products in my home. I truly didn’t plan on being this way but it just seemed like the right path for my family. I do a lot of homeopathic remedies, use essential oils, and use non-toxic products.  I feel more comfortable knowing exactly what I’m putting into my little one’s body. He’s 14 months old and has been sick twice.  I’m very lucky – Knock on wood. No ear infections, he’s maybe had 2 diaper rashes (when we went full on food, he was pooping a lot! His little tushy didn’t handle it so well but it’s gotten under control).
Than it comes down to, what else is going to happen to this kid? What is he going to suffer through? What I am going to suffer through?
I can picture him scraping his knees badly from falling from his bicycle or breaking an arm or leg somewhere (although I’ve escaped this fate myself, being as hyper as I was it’s a miracle. I hope he’s just as lucky).
But I also think about all the little daily victories to look forward to. There’s so much to look forward to that it makes it easier to deal with the sick times.  But I’m trying my best to boost his immunity to make the sick times disappear. I’m looking into making a bone broth, I hear it has wonderful benefits but I haven’t read up on it fully. Anyone make bone broth in their home? I need some tips on how much to give and how to store it.
I hope all of our little ones are as healthy as can be. If your baby is sick right now I pray they get healing.  I pray for the mama’s of babies with serious illnesses. It breaks my heart to know there are children in so much pain. I hope you hug them tightly and I wish you comfort mama.
And for those little colds? What do you do when your littles are sick? Special probiotics?  Lots of cuddles? Let me know in the comments below.

Vintage Airplane Party – DIY

Vintage Airplane Party
Vintage Airplane Party

I’m excited to be sharing this special Vintage Airplane Party for my son’s first birthday. I had a hard time deciding on the theme for my son’s first birthday party.

He doesn’t really have any LIKES at this point.  But once I decided on vintage airplanes, it was full speed ahead. I plan on posting a tutorial or two for a few things from the party. Continue reading “Vintage Airplane Party – DIY”

Should I Have More Children? and What’s the Best Age Gap Between Siblings?

Best age gap between siblings

Deciding on having more children is up to each individual family and planning the Age Gap between siblings is an important part of it, depending very much on your particular family dynamic.

Inquiring minds want to know, is there a second baby being planned? Hold up! Was the first one even planned? LOL .  (If you are my mom or dad reading this, stop now and read something else! I know what your answer is!)

I’m a total chicken and I don’t think I’ll ever plan for a child. IF (very huge IF) my husband I decide on another you can believe it’s the second coming.  Okay, just kidding!! but exaggerations aside, I’ve been feeling a little bit of unnecessary pressure. Not put on by anyone but myself. A couple of my friends that were pregnant around the time I was are either pregnant again or working on it. Lose That Baby Weight Mom! Join us!

Now that all the parties are over and done with (I keep saying that!) and I’m breathing easier I’m able to focus on myself. At least for a few minutes. Come on, I’m still a mother after all!

I’ve started a little group for moms on Facebook and have been doing exercises along with them. Everyone knows that when you have others with the same goal, cheering you on you go farther!

So with the help of these lovely ladies, we are doing one of the Blogilates programs, which I’ll post below.  Would love to have you join us!  We are now on Day 3, but it doesn’t matter when you start as long as you do start.

After my c-section, if I did any exercises it was mostly for my glutes and legs. My abs are really weak and instead of trying to get them stronger I opted for other workouts.  It really is rough when your core is weak, you can’t hold yourself up.  Having a c-section is no joke, and I do not recommend it if it’s something you can opt out of.  I wrote a post about my birth story here, give it a read.

My focus is really to strengthen my core and so far it has worked. Day 3 of the workout schedule and I already feel stronger, able to complete fully most exercises.  Some, I still need more strength in order to do them correctly.  But I’m hanging in there and hope you’ll join me and the other mama’s.

Let’s make this year, a year to remember and forget our weaker selves.

Here’s the workout schedule:

5 Ways to Getting Your Baby Asleep FAST!

sleep training

I had nap time and bed time squared away for several months.  But it seems as if his sleeping schedule has gone haywire since the time change.  It doesn’t help that we have new teeth coming in. There has been some sleep lost and some stress gained.

I may have touched on the subject of sleep a few times before in previous posts on how important it is for brain development and such. The benefits for baby are fantastic, we all know that.  But as a bonus, we get to actually get things done when they are not around.  You can read more about our sleeping habits here & here.

Having a mobile baby that refuses to sleep is one of my worst nightmares. You get nothing done and spend most of your time just saying No, don’t touch that or getting things out of their hands they shouldn’t be touching.  It really makes for a stressful day.

With the time change, things have shifted quite a bit here.  I’m trying to catch up and make sure my son is comfortable since he has no clue the time has changed. A bedtime that was “scheduled” for 6:30 pm is now “technically” 7:30 pm.  CRANKY BABY CENTRAL! I did meet him halfway and have been slowly pushing the time he sleeps little by little.

The first few days were rough and though I’m still working through a couple of things, we are getting almost settled into our new sleeping patterns.

Here are 5 Tips for getting baby asleep fast!

  1. Make sure your baby doesn’t go from super busy, loud and hyper scenarios to bed. Calming a kid down is a task in itself.  Making sure they are mellow before they go down is super important and less stressful for you and baby. Decompress that baby!
  2. Make sure the room they are sleeping in is cool. Babies don’t regulate their body temperature as well as we do. So making sure they are properly dressed and a cool temperature makes sleep come easier.
  3. WHITE NOISE! I can’t stress how important this is.  While baby was in the womb, he constantly heard noises. Your heartbeat being one of them.  I have a fan on in the room while he sleeps every time. I even travel with it!  It helps lull them to sleep quicker and helps with outside noise reduction.  You can find several inexpensive ones on Amazon, or you can even use apps on your phone.
  4. Full tummy.  Not only will that make them sleep longer but if you put  baby to breast or bottle before they are going to sleep it will take no effort to get them to stay asleep.  This has been a life saver for me.
  5. If all else fails, rocking your baby while making a shushing sound helps tremendously.  Although it requires more work.  I feel their sleep is more important than my arm getting tired.  I don’t want my child missingany zzzzz’s since I know how crucial sleep is to my little guy’s development.

Here’s to some great naps!

Do you have some other baby sleeping techniques to share? Let me know in the comments below.
